About Shanahan Finance Company
C.E. McClellan (Mr. Mac) started McClellan Finance and Insurance in the 1920’s. He also sold wallpaper and was one of Poteau’s more colorful characters. In 1949, Harry Shanahan went to work for Mr. Mac, learning every aspect of the finance and insurance business. Many “old-timers” in LeFlore County borrowed money from Mr. Mac and Mr. Shanahan.

Mr. Shanahan became the trustee of C. E. McClellan Trust in 1963 after the death of Mr. Mac.  The Trust ran for 20 years before Harry started Shanahan Finance Co.; same business and values, just different name.

The business was incorporated in 1983 as Shanahan Finance and continued to make loans, sell insurance and invest in real estate.  Harry ran the business until his death in 2010.  Harry was a very honorable man with high ethics and belived that people wants to honor their contracts. He helped thousands of people in his lifetime.

After his death, his daughter, Gloria Cherry took over the business with Michael Cooper, Harry’s grandson by her side. Angela Breeding, Harry ‘s granddaughter is also part of the business, but she had her own business, Poteau Eye Care. Gloria and Michael offer all kinds of loans for people and still run the business with the same values and ethics that Harry did. They think since they are a family business and not corporate owned they can help serve people fairly. They determine their interest rates based on their customers. Family owned and operated for over 50 years and we hope to be part of Poteau for another 50 years.
